It's not as complicated as it can seem. You just have to:
    • adjust the bias for a flat highs response (same as input)
    • adjust the rec level for each song, preferably while monitoring the result.

Holy god! Prices went high indeed. I bought mines for less than 250 euros (though not mint nor new or boxed).

Great article Helaba! and nice unit Boodokhan. The little brother to the 430 is the Marantz PMD 420, two heads instead of three. This unit is identical on the exterior and can still be bought for 1/3 of the price of the 430.

I use mine with a pair of active speakers which have their own bass and treble controls.. works great. Marantz makes some really good decks, I still use a pmd340, 201 and 430 quite regularly for playback and recording from external source.

I have a NAK500.. they are truly a great playback deck. I have noticed that anything I record on the nak never sounds as good unless I play it back on a nak. For that reason, I use naks for playing only. I record on my Marantz if I need to make a mix tape.

Sorry for the crossposting, but I got a Marantz CP-430 (european version of the PMD-430) that I’d like to have serviced.

I try to contact the technicians mentioned in the forum faq but I haven’t got any answers yet, except from Dr.Walkman (but sadly he’s not accepting new works at the moment)

Any tips about reputable technicians in Europe or Italy?

    Thanks!

    hello @rumorazzi
I think you should send it somewhere in Europe to get it serviced. Have you contacted anybody (apart from Dr Walkman)?
My best recommendation is to send it to @Sergi. He repaired some of my walkmans and I am extremely satisfied with his work.

    Thanks,

I contacted @Sergi via message here and from his site and I’m still waiting for an answer.

I contacted @mihokm too (no answer yet)
And Superscope too (but they’re in the US)
