Hey guys I just found this on ebay... I've ordered one to try it out From pics and description it looks perfect for walkman repairs. The screw holders are magnetic, and there is even storage with a lid for them horrible little plastic cir-clips which always fly off https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mobile-P...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 you can get them for cheaper if you order from China
I've just written a note on the other forum about this. Having worked in electronics for many years, I cannot recommend it for repairing any circuit board which contains semiconductors and ICs which may be static sensitive (i.e, all of them), especially those which cannot be replaced.
Mine should be here tomorrow or Wednesday, and I am actually in the middle of a DD33 repair, so will take some pictures and report back asap.
perfect for walkmans for tape deck transport servicing i think it will quickly get cramped ill let you all know asap if i ever fry a walkman using the non esd grounded mat
I'm going to get one , only last night I had a ex 615 in bits at my desk with the screws in a plastic box which I inadvertently knocked over and lost the screws (for now) . Maybe good for clumsy people like me.
That thing is awesome, I have to get one! DEB64, I couldn't find your thread, what is the static issue? Can I ground it or modify so there's no static?
I wrote here my reasons why I would not use it for Walkman repairs. It is sold for repairing smartphones and similar devices but the components used in modern smartphones are a lot more prone to static damage due to the greater component density and miniaturisation so I do not think it is suitable for the purpose for which it is intended. Since it is made of insulated plastic, I cannot see how it could be modified to make it ESD safe. There are lot of things I like about it, such as separate boxes with magnetic bases for all the different screws and bits. An "ESD safe" version, made from conductive plastic with a 10mm stud in one of the back corners, to connect an earthing strap, would be a very good product.
