Hunting for old adverts I found this, with a £280 Panasonic boombox as the second advert. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...us-images-vintage-70-s-80-s-tech-adverts.html I don't think the Philips cassette price is right. £129 was for the Spectrum below it. It doesn't take you long to realise that the Spectrum was about the most expensive thing most UK folks could afford.
I like the way the whole advert seems to be about trying to justify the cost. £1300 in todays money according to the Bank of England inflation calculator.
Great post! It's amazing to see how fast "BIG" memory fades away for much larger capacities and become super cheap to boot. Hell it's becoming difficult to find a computer sold with a cd/DVD ROM nowadays because of their memory. Never heard of that Apple company though. Did they go on to something successful or?
I put a link to more old computer stuff here which was when I found the article above http://www.stereo2go.com/forums/threads/alt1977-pocket-hi-fi.2105/#post-17879 A funny thought. If you measured $/lb (or Euros/Kg) for disk drives then the ratio might stay more or less constant. People joked about old drives turning into doorstops but even a Modern SSD has hardly any weight at all.
It's mad when you think about it guys, both of my computers have 64 gb of ram and 4 graphics cards in each haha hell even my laptop has 32gb of ram and the latest graphics card which is considered the norm these days....i just bought a 1 terabyte kingston flash drive for £300 a couple of weeks ago and they go upto 2tb
