I have never seen this model before. However the styling is very mid eighties Akai. Alot of their other HiFis components used the same colour scheme, lettering font, and button shapes. They also tended to be a button pressers delight which at the time made them look very futuristic. The first HiFi system I bought (as opposed to made) was an Akai FD3L which shares many of those features.

Damn that is a cool Akai ! I dont think i have ever seen that box and i very rarely get excited by 3 piece boxes but that is cool as hell
Yeah I like it a lot, especially the cool LCD spectrum analyzer, it's actually a 4 piece or 5 if you count the handle, you rarely see this box anywhere for sale.
