I've tried to dig up some of those old threads, there's was some good information on the Marantz MS-53 System in the old forum. I think it was HI-FI Tom that had posted a lot of photos a long time ago, and some very good information. Arkay also found a unit but he got pressed for photos. The Marantz originally came in a metal flight container box which held two speakers, the antenna, a battery pack, and an optional accessory. The two accessories were either an EQ or the tape deck, the buyer would pick one. The tape deck was a Marantz Portable Cassette Player (Walkman and maybe the only true Walkman Style Player Marantz made), and I believe all the components were based on the size of the cassette player (which also doubles as a Walkman with it's own battery power source) as they have the same footprint. It has an intricately wired power source, 13.5v, without the wires it would be difficult to power the units. The neat thing with the cassette deck is that it transmits on the FM band and doesn't physically hook to the receiver. There's some debate as to what this was built for but there is a photo on the net of a Japanese Shop with it on display, I think the price was around $450.00 USD in 1981. I cheated and didn't fully power up the system but the speakers also have a bright light in the bottom square when they are turned on.
I grabbed this photo from an old S2G Thread, that's it on the top shelf, it seems kind of reasonable considering the price of the other units.

Thanks! The Marantz MS-53 shown with the optional accessories, the equalizer and the personal cassette player. I think most people grabbed the EQ, the cassette player seems to be much more rare.
Nah, , never even seen this Stereo in flesh, bud. Not yet. After your post I was curious so run a quick web search on this machine.
I'm thinking about doing a thread on them, I'm not sure if there's interest or if the people that collect them want them exposed ; )
