[IMG] So i have an Akai HX-A351W that cannot fast forward. it can play & rewind just fine, i feel like if it were a belt or motor that those functions wouldn’t work either but i’m not sure, i’m definetly new to this & need some help. i have downloaded the service manual & plan to take it apart but it’s pretty hard to tell what i’m looking at & these service manuals don’t make it super easy ! any help would be appreciated

I'd start by taking the top off and looking at the condition of the belts and watching movement when you try to fast forward. Do both decks have the same problem?

appreciate your comment, yes both decks have the same issue, i took off the top & watch the belt as i pressed rewind & fast forward, it almost looks as if the belt is worn & could be too loose? it looks pretty loose, with no tape in it will spin the forward reel as it should, but i guess not enough strength with any of my actual tapes. i have attached a video [IMG] https://imgur.com/gallery/eIsRvEX

When it releases tension on the right side pulley, I think it's keeping a little torque to keep the tape tight, which is normal. I use a product called "Rubber Renue" to get some sticky-ness back to hard belts but I'd try new belts first since you can see movement when you change directions.
I've used these guys but don't see your belts listed https://www.turntableneedles.com/
