Has anyone got a trusty beater box at work or at home that gets used and abused? You know the type. The ones covered in dust and paint specks, coffee stains, or grease covered volume knows. I want to see the workhorses around our environments. It can be from any location, work, home, garage or even a sighting but it has to be a bruised and used unit.

Here's two from my workplace. Shared among 10 employees and brought in many years ago. I confess to having scavenged springs from the JVC...

    Yeah good idea.

I have a Sanyo mini in the kitchen that plays all day everyday and is a bit worse for wear but keeps going. In the shed i have an Aiwa 950. Cosmetically its a beater just about and the tape dont work but it has a proper line in and radio works fine and it sounds awesome still.

I use this one where my other boxes would never go. Not that I don't care about it but its a "oh it got splashed with water...eh...it's still playing" :) box

Sometime ago I was thinking of starting a "What is Your Most Used Boombox" thread but this one is similar.

One which I use every single day is one that I never get to see. Here it is use

    IMG_8127.JPG

Peeking behind the monitor there is a rather dusty Sony CFS-DW38L
    IMG_8129.JPG

Why use computer speakers when you have a spare boombox ?
100 times better than the speakers in the monitor.
The volume control is also perfectly positioned to adjust without looking hence the lack of dust around it.

Believe it or not Tre, I aquired my M90 from a neighbour who had it sitting in his garage. He used it for his workshop (woodworking and the like) It was caked in filth and smelled like sawdust.
Needless to say I gave it the Northerner touch and brought her back to fully working order....the price? FREE. He no longer spent as much time outside in the garage anymore..

Some before an after pics (posted back on the old forum as well)

She was in sad shape. Scavenged a new battery spring from the JVC egg radio at work, and refoamed the battery compartment. Re belted the beast and cleaned the hell out of it...except the speaker. It had some drops of stuff on it and I was afraid to touch those 35 year old speakers for the fear that they'd turn to dust. I can live with it for now though.

Below is her cleaned up and fully functioning.

Here's my work box and believe it or not...my favourite box. Too much sentimental memories with this one. I would never sell it ...

Note the painted battlescars on the tuner wheel and the nice white droplets of paint adorning it's lovely chassis. It has endured rain, pool water and more paint and dust than I'd like to admit to. Sadly I'll never give her the bath treatment because it really reminds me of the great projects and times I had getting it to this point.

    She's fugly but it's my workhorse. IMG_4191.JPG IMG_4207.JPG IMG_4208.JPG
