The forum changeover triggered me to go from skulker to member. I've been lurking for the last few weeks to glean tips on refurbing a 2nd-gen Lasonic TRC-931. My love of the big boxes started this summer when I scored a giant Cariole blaster and a Sharp VZ-3000 bookshelf unit at two separate estate sales. Researching how to clean the pots/replace gooey belts led me to you folks. It was only after scoring the Lasonic that I realized that advanced skills were needed. It works but really needs help, as the case is completely wrecked. It turned up at a garage sale after having spent two decades parked in a rumpus room with wood heat, right next to the furnace. Except for a missing battery cover and one antenna, it is complete, but the outside is completely warped and twisted. All the graphics had peeled off, but were kept in place with gaffer tape. Despite the abuse, everything works, albeit with dust-choked decks. I promised its original owner that I would do my best for it. I figure you are all my best hope to restore this beast once I score a usable carcass! Back to lurk-mode while the new site settles. If your stomachs are strong, I'll add pictures of the brutalized blaster later.
