I actually found this years ago and it was one of my first posts on the very old forum which has long since dissolved. This monster is a Karaoke Boombox Hybrid, the Hitachi CX-G700W technically it's not really a boombox since it doesn't have a battery compartment. I fired it up years ago and it works great but I've misplaced the European Adaptor so it doesn't show power in this photo. I'm assuming it works with CD+G disks, they're regular CDs but they also have a graphics file of the lyrics which plays on the video out, so you can sing to the lyrics! This is a very heavy box rated at 38W on the back, if memory serves me, I divide by 14 to get close to 3 watts a speaker. There is a quality feel to all of the buttons and knobs, a little better than the few 3D Models I have. I was just checking out Amazon.com and they have large music collections for cheap, I might have to get this back up and running for the next boombox event. For some odd reason the CD Graphics Sticker on the top is upside down, I don't know if that's normal.
But there's never a firm correlation between consumption and speaker output. Theoretically, "max consumption" should equal what it consumes when all accessories are running, like the tuner and the tape deck, and any disco lights or whatever, at full volume. And since some boxes have more "stuff" than others.....it's too hard to guess how much of that power goes to the speakers. In fact, the government doesn't require those labels to be true anyway. I have a couple boxes that claim 150 watts consumption (Aimor ST-808 and the ISP SC-800), even though they're not much louder than a JVC M70.
Yes, never a firm correlation but at least you may get an idea of output power level assuming consumption is given more or less corect. I use it for receivers/amplifiers when having no access to manual, etc.
i have a bigger Hitachi a big black thing as loud as the kaboom with asw but i have never seen this one before
I think I read about cord watts to speaker watts over on AudioKarma years ago, somebody figured the best way to get in the ballpark was to divide by 14. It's not an accurate number but it helps you get close.
They might have been talking about vintage receivers. Not boomboxes with tape players whose tape decks consume some of the power. JVC Kaboom DP100 consumption says only 44 watts, a similar figure that many weak 80s boxes claimed. Yet the Kaboom has way more bass than any 80s box. Its service manual says the audio output is 42W RMS. So, either they fabricated one of those numbers, or the consumption number was too low because they weren't operating the tape deck when they measured the consumption. Assuming they even measured it at all. Which again, the government doesn't require them to.
i have noticed something Mrx...you could in theory connect a graphic eq to you're Hitachi...that is what those metal pins are for on the back if removed, it allows you to add one
The home karaoke trend never really caught on in the US so these units are pretty rare. I can still get on Amazon and get music discs with no vocals to use in this but I haven't had the time to get it properly working.
