I had a chance to open a Walkman DD, Wm-2 (and Wm-5 ) and compare the mechanical differences.

diameter of regular DD gears: 36.3mm , Diameter of gear in WM-2 : 36.5

Capstan diameter in DD :25.5 vs WM-2 (or WM-5): 24.5

Top magnetic gear diameter in DD: 24.2 vs WM-2: 21.5

Take up gear diameter in DD: 18.6mm in WM-5 (or Wm-2): 21.5

The difference between the central gears is negligible, beside that you measure the Marianş gear not the original one. My point was that you can use wm2 gear in the DD models

well, i‘ve tried that years ago - it didn‘t work

It is not negligible. I tried several times it doesn't work. WM-2 gear doesn't work for regular DD walkman.
I did different combination any combination you can imagine. Including with and without take up gear, with and without WM-2 magnet, I modified certain part but no matter what i did couldn't get any good outcome. WM-2/5 gear is very thin but DD central gear is thick and once you install WM-2 gear on DD walkman the gear doesn't rotate other gears appropriately.

The reason I picked Marian's gear is very simple. once the central gear cracks its diameter changes from original diameter and as you know some of these DD models with cracked gear do not work at all due to big gap, that interfere with movement. So I compared WM-2 gear with Marian's gear which is the closest possible gear to Sony original DD gear.

I mean the DIAMETER is negligible, but if it is thinner that`s the other story. I apologize for my ignorance. Just for the reference, here is the measurement of an unbroken central gear.
