Mister x's passion for diverting his attention from real work has uncovered this gem from Electronics Austrialia Magazine. I know Technics had the CoDeck and the larger 646D portable cassette players but I found this review from February 1983 for Technics Branded "Way" Portable Cassette Players. Most of us have seen the National or Panasonic Versions but never the Technics Version. I'm still a little dubious, the photo looks like it still says National on the case but I'd love to see a fully boxed unit. I don't think Kent every posted the Technics Version, if he did let me know.
I need my eyeglasses prescription re-confirmed, but it does look like Nationals and Panny on display! ...Potato-Potato... when I were buying my first Discman (some Technics) I did not know that it is an "upscale" Panasonic that I respected very-very much! They could have charged me more for Panasonic! ...life before the 'net was soo simple, I almost hate this flood of useless information!!!!
I feel like the Panasonic Guys and the Technics Guys used to live on different floors of the factory. The entire culture is different between the two companies which I find refreshing. In the old days of General Motors the divisions were separated and the cars were pretty unique. The late 70's came and things changed, homogenization was king, engines were the same, door handles the same, etc. It would be nice if we could find an old Technics Designer/Engineer to chime in but it's been years since we've heard from any of those guys.
