    Hi All

I was in a thrift store today and found a Sony WM-DD9

Seems to be in mint condition.

Looks like it's working after installing a battery in it.

I don't own any cassette tapes. I will have to keep an eye out for some.

I Google the unit and some showed up on eBay with really large numbers. I thought these were mistakes.

Is the WM-DD9 actually worth a thousand plus dollars?

    Thanks

Yes, that’s the usual price but in my opinion that doesn’t mean that is worth that price. They are seriously over priced
If the unit you’ve seen cost much less money, go run and grab it

It's a good unit, but like walkman archive said they are over priced. The price is high because many believe it to be the sounding Sony Walkman.

The holy grail Walkman in a thrift store!!. The stuff of dreams. Probably in the top 5 best sounding Walkman in most collectors ratings. To know what it sounded like new when shipped you will need the elusive MDR-E575 headphones. Better go back to that thrift store again

Nice walkman but not the best sounding by far.

    Yes crazy over priced.

I have a fully restored like new AIWA PX101 on its what from Romania which I much prefer.

I love hearing the good thrifting stories, I used to hit them up all of the time back when I had my sales job, there's was always some extra time to stop, make some calls, do some paperwork and do a little shopping at lunch. The first rule of thrifting is if you find something nice, really look through everything to find related items, most people don't just drive there with one item, they fill their car.

If your not into the hobby, I'd move it on, at least the owner didn't throw it out, I've heard plenty of those stories.

A couple of the Charity shops I go to sell cassettes. James Last and similar seem to be a favourite. The demographics around here explain that. I doubt that I will ever find a high end Walkman though. Far more likely is a mid range Micro Hi-Fi from one of the big Japanese manufacturers. Those come up regularly as peoples flats and houses are cleared.

Regarding Mister X's last comment we also have some House Clearance shops here. You pay them to empty the house, and you could guarantee that anything reasonably valuable would end up being auctioned !
