Once again Hitachi trk- 5280h repair restorer renew new new belts installed serviced starting here. What's inside? Specifications and warranty card How come it's so dusty inside the box and under the plastic and all that. And here's the most important part of the back Next group will be inside and servicing.
Got all the screws out. There was a short one just under the antenna and then another short one in the center of the back and all the rest are really long all the way around I even took off the headphone jack nut from the front of the radio because well I could and now I'm cracking inside and taking a picture before I completely open this up I hate having to try to guess where the antenna wire goes so That's where it goes. Two push pin for the DC input. Red on top and black on the bottom. It is nice that the power supply is fused and the rest of the inside now I got to take a few minutes and figure out how to get to the cassette deck. Now a few minutes later. Since removing all the case screws, there are still three more screws to unscrew from the yellow chassis near the tuning end and the top of the radio to be able to release the chassis and also need to unplug the red and black wires from the top which attached to the microphone. The one near the tune end but the other side looks like it's soldered on so I guess they made it convenient for that servicing. those three screws look like they need to be removed and then the chassis will come out and also unplug the red and white wires from the chassis above.
Yes, just remove those three little tiny screws and then I had to snip a few wire holders you know like twisty ties. And then if you look at my previous picture of the back inside near where the dual recording bar switches are, there is a big little gray plug and that's for your record and playback head connections unplug that and then unclip where those wires connect to the chassis and then once you remove the three screws you can flop The chassis over and you can see what I see now. This has three belts. One of them is a flat belt coming off of the motor and at least three idler tires that I can see. Another view! Yes, the flat belt goes under the square belt The motor flat belt drives the flywheel. Then the flywheel drives something else and then the third belt. I don't know what rotates it but now I got to go measure belts. I'll be back.
Here's a view with no belts Next we have the flat and what I call the business belt and then we have the counter belt. a flat belt measures Flat belt maybe 3 mm wide but not bigger than that folded length is 13 cm or 130 mm and this one does not need to be replaced so you could get one this size and be okay I think. This one measures about 97 mm. I want to replace this with just one about 95 mm. I would prefer cuz this one does all the work and it needs to be flexible but I believe it's the one that's loose. at about 92 mm this is a counterbelt and I don't think it needs to be replaced because it's running fine.
Before I put my new belts in, I want to show that I cleaned the pulleys. If you refer back to an earlier picture that I posted where the pulleys are definitely black and I cleaned the secondary belt that's driven off of the flywheel and then drives and idler pulley and then another pulley as the idler pulley is not really an idler as it is the Jack shaft That moves during rewind and fast forward. I used dental floss to clean the pulley of the flywheel and I use these q-tips and denatured alcohol to clean the pulley that I'm pointing to with my pic. I'm doing this to ensure no slippage of belts on the pulleys before I put on the newer belts.
While I'm thinking about it someone's going to ask the question about how you route the tuner string so let me get a picture of that so you can see just how it works. Just be one picture. You can pretty well figure it out from this I hope.
Yes you have to get out your 11 mm deep well socket and your Phillips head to remove two screws and then three nuts. Just so you can properly spray your deoxit into the bass, treble and volume knobs
I removed the balance control by removing two screws and discovered that this has a bulb for the stereo tuning light but only one connection is correct as the other end is disconnected. The blue wire goes to the bottom corner of the main board, but I don't know where the white wire goes. Can anybody help with this? See picture where the blue wire goes and then the white wire is being held by my helper and then there's the bulb on the pic and the balance knob and switches in the center.
Hello the stereo signal comes out of the receiver at point D from that point it reaches the lamp and then connects to the switch S4 On the motherboard it is connected like this blue and white wire

I soldered The stereo bulb in place but I didn't test him beforehand because I don't know what voltage it takes or requires. The bulb doesn't work in stereo but this radio has a signal strength tuning meter and I have another radio here tuned to the same station without antenna extended. The radio sounds great otherwise. I'm using a Sanyo m7770k to match radio stations in stereo. But I can't get the stereo light to work. It's probably burnt out. Here's a picture of the bulb. Not lit but with the radio on and full signal strength and sounding great. Well I tried. Everything else works great including the cassette player.
Very thorough! I found it a nice and simple deck to work on though. A great first project for me. I too have no stereo light, but the bulb did appear blackened. I must go back and investigate further. It did simply look like a generic ‘grain of rice’ bulb, but I suppose you need to check the current etc. running through it.
Okay on a strong station here I'm measuring about 8.5 volts across those two terminals So I guess I should be looking for about a 12-volt bulb in a 3 mm size because that's the diameter of the bulb that I measured. Yeah it doesn't show it there as 3 mm but yes it is.
Well I looked online and I found bulbs that may fit. Then I looked locally and AutoZone had this bulb so I got it soldered it in and it works. But the bulb is too big, a diameter and not very bright. It's a 14 volt 1.3 w bulb. So the circuit works just need the right diameter bulb and possibly the right current because 1.3 w is maybe too strong with the smallest waters that they had. Was 1.1 w at 14 volts either one. As long as you're over 12 volts I think it's okay. But earlier I measured 8.5 volts. So I don't know if I can find a 9 volt bulb at whatever wattage. Anyway, I'm done. I do not think I can get this bigger diameter bulb into the receptacle even though the hole original is a split hole, meaning that it's like a compression fit. But this is probably too big a diameter to fit in that hole, but I'll see if I can. Just set it on top of the hole or something like that. Maybe it'll be bright enough. I don't know. I've had my fun. I'm done. I'm not going out and buying a whole bunch of these little bulbs online. I already have enough stocker belts. That's enough. I'm just letting you know that this does work if you want to put the right kind of bulb in there. Otherwise you can use the signal level to see that you got good signal cuz that works as well and it has one.
Thanks to the battery power supply and the voltages provided by the circuit, all the chips work at 9 Volts, so the reading you measured is fine ... I would try with a LED and a series resistor of about 1k, to see if it works
I don't have an LED and I don't know what size to get or any of that that's out of my league. Even though it's pretty simple I'm sure, but thanks for that information
The bulb that I got the automotive one is in there and working but you really can't see it cuz it's kind of dim. This play's my trouble cassette very well, which is a store-bought album by Saga worlds apart. Radio works very well as well. I'm going to put the Hitachi inside and go run an errand. I'll be back.
