The Japanese Literature portrays some boomboxes as the center of a home entertainment systems, usually with external speakers, a turntable and a neat looking little rack. I feel like it had to do with space. When you add up the costs for all of the equipment it wasn't a cheap purchase, you're at $700+ USD if you bought all of the above and that was in 1980. I keep an eye out for the little speakers and they come up for sale once in a great while, it would be neat to hear one of these full systems.
