I been looking for a nice look MiniDisc box for years and most are like the undesireable egg shaped models of the 90's so I was surprisd to see this JVC MiniDisc Boombox from 2005. Anybody own one of these? There's a similar model that's still for sale NOS.

They don't have much resale value over in Japan but they tend to get rid of older electronics.

I got one! My Best Offer was accepted and one of these beautiful boxes showed up today, it's branded as a Victor "Hello Kitty" Clavia CD-MD Portable System Model KT-RC1. The only bad news is that it's not a real boombox, there's no battery pack but it does say "portable system" on the cover. The speakers are just a hair under 3" but I'm getting really good sound out of this and the stereo separation is not bad at all.

There's some weight to it and the build quality is kind of nice although the CD and cassette doors open with a push to the corner. There's a button for sound enhancement with two different modes, I'm not sure what they are exactly but they do change the sound nicely.

The center control panel is backlit and has several different colors with the main information displayed on the LCD display. The Hello Kitty Version LCD Screen stays pink. I think there's a remote for these, I'll have to look on the Japanese Auction Sites to find one.

The Clavia seems to be a JDM Box only, mine is 100v and has Japanese Writing on the information tag, everything elect is printed in English.

I think it's is going to make a great birthday present and first boombox, hiding it for a few days might be a problem.
