I was recently going to create a mixtape for a friend but my cassette deck plays/records too fast and I was planning on adjusting the speed, I thought this was going to be a simple job like adjusting the speed on a Walkman but I was wrong! This cassette deck is the concord F-120 cassette auto changer. I don’t have the user Manuel nor could I find any info on servicing, anyone have a clue on what I could do where the speed adjustment would be on this?
Check out the articles in this thread, it's from the early 80's and might have what you're looking for. http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/audiocassette-recorder-adjustment.5191/#post-40022 Sometimes there's an adjustment hole in the back of the motor, if you're lucky, I've got an AIWA AD-F810 that requires adding parts to get the speed to change. The articles above also mention some easy ways to see if the motor might just need some lube or if it's dying.
Thanks I’ll check it out, I don’t think it’s a lube problem because it actually plays tapes faster lol. It makes all of my tapes sound high pitched and fast
I had this similar problem with a 8 track cassette deck years ago, it was too fast. I had the service manual, and no speed adjustment was ever mentioned. Eventually, I learned that the only think you could do to change the speed was modify the circuitry (add/remove components), and I had no idea where to even start. The service manual was REALLY helpful... Your deck is really old, and from my experience, manufacturers put no adjustable speed governors in players back in the early years of cassette/8 track. Not only this, a lot of these early decks used AC motors, which relied on a constant voltage from the wall to give the unit it's proper speed. Who thought that was a good idea? So, the answer, maybe locate where the motor connects up to the board, test for bad capacitors/transistors in that area, measure voltage of the motor and compare with the service manual if you have one.
it may have the wrong belt on it, too thick someone replaced it? was it working ok before? cant see the pullies too well
I think your belt is placed wrong at the capstan side , try to move the belt at the point that shows the red arrow and see what happens.
