wow, very expensive cassette iconconfused : https://www.ebay.ca/itm/TEAC-Casset...113079?hash=item1aad44bdb7:g:z2wAAOSwS2xf2A2p
Search eBay for TEAC REEL CASSETTE and you get a few aftermarket options for under $30. Not bad for a photoshoot, in my personal experience. Real Things start at ~50 (TEAC CDC-90) and end, as @Boodokhan said, on the Dark Side of Sanity... also check this thread: "Audiovox" starts producing Reel-2-Reel tapes
I don't think those are the changeable reel version Jorge. It seems the NOS tape market is also going ballistic right now, I feel like most of the older members have a few boxes of tapes stored away. I never really gave tapes much aesthetic thoughts but a display with some of the nicer ones might be nice looking up on the wall.
Recently acquired 2 from a Russian seller. Took a punt on the cheap postage but worth it to get the silver CRC-90. Even though it is type 1 and the gold is CRO2 they are so hard to find. Of course once you have one in the original shrink wrap you are never going to bring yourself to using it. There is a seller in eastern Europe on Instagram with very good repro ones for around $30. Insta name is reelcassetestore. Tried buying his Teac ones but during Covid mail/parcels out of his country has been put on hold. Still waiting for him to tell me when the mail service has returned but I can't see that happening anytime soon given the situation in most EU countries with stricter lockdowns in place. https://www.instagram.com/p/CJQdyLWMnTD/?igshid=1a1bizzqmo0id
Reel cassettes from Teac are for the photo-shoot, and those with interchangeable reels were (in my uneducated opinion) for Collectors-Only. I think the best SQ you would get from MetalMasters from Sony and such from TDK/Maxell but those do not look like much...
I don't even think the reels spin in the repros, it's just cardboard or foil stuck on the inside of the case. It's odd, the ones that actually work, not the TEAC RTR Style, were always found on cheaper cassettes, like the 1000's of religious cassettes that ended up on Ebay. My old company sold a cleaning cassette with RTR reels and they were closing them out on their early website. I mentioned on here and the phones must have went ballistic because they took down the very old listing immediately. Luckily I have a few stored with my other cassettes.
There is a guy making 'new' ones and selling them in eBay: https://www.ebay.es/itm/Teac-Audio-Kassettes-Neue-Gold-Reel-to-Reels-Cassette-Cassettes/303707507598 They're not exactly as the originals but the price is totally affordable.
I wonder if the typo BLAS instead of Bias is intentional, to not be confused with the RealThing? The other offerings of Technics etc, which we know never existed, those look real nice! Last week I got accepted as a Facebook friend of our honorable member @Claudio, so once tired of playing with dead Discmans I will buy a few R2R cassettes from him. Another benefit for me: now I have 2 (two!) friends at Facebook so hopefully they won't kick me out (they did it twice!) due to inactivity
@Mister X - I Love you Man: your belief in Humanity is even lower than mine!! ...But No, the one I bought from our Russian Comrad for $10+s/h was a real R2R cassette, I even used it for some of my posts here
