Check out some of the HD Series Speakers from the late 70's Boodokhan, I've got the huge HD-880's and a few of the smaller units around here. The 880's are the type you'd expect to see in a frat house cranking Van Halen, they're about 4' tall and around 80 lbs each. I won't debate the sound quality but visually they are very nice along with a high quality build including aluminum trim rings and tone adjustments on the speaker panel. The speaker cover is a distinctive diamond shape that protrudes from the speaker instead of the standard flat. Sometimes a bargain due to local pick-up only, make sure they have the original drivers with the concave coil cover. Notorious for surround rot, the drivers are worth a ton on the used market.

I remember those speakers when they were new, saw them demonstrated in a local hifi shop. They packed a punch to say the least!

Several years ago, while I was a young traveling salesman, I was working over Wisconson and I found a neat little pinball and coin-op shop in the middle of no-where. I asked about any Flash Gordon Machines and the owner said a guy out in the country had a ton of pinballs, a few for sale, and he might have the elusive Flash Gordon. After getting his number and talking with him I went out to look at his machines. While his collection was very impressive taking up a full size basement, I was more impressed by a Marantz 2385 that he wanted to get rid of. At the time I passed on it but thought about it for a few weeks and when I was in the area next I ended up getting the Marantz, two HD-880's with speaker rot, and a very high end Zenith Mega -Watt Unit for 200 bones. Luckily I owned a small pick-up at the time since it took the whole bed to haul the equipment.
