........My personal top 30 boxes from my collection:

In my thread 'A few of my recent boxes' I admitted to having at least 258! boxes in my collection.

I replied with 'That's a very difficult question, which I can't immediately answer, I don't think I could choose just one. I will probably do a top 10 this will be easier, tomorrow I'll have a quick review of contenders, but my JVC M70 will be in there along with a Hitachi TRK-8800 and my Sanyo M7830, so that's three'

Well it turns out I couldn't even decide on a top ten, so I did a top 30 10 from each of the following:
1 piece boxes, 3 or more pieces and minis, even this was difficult!
These are my personal choices and are based on many things i.e. Looks, quality, features, colour, deck etc etc or I just like it. These top 10's are in no particular order.

I don't own many 3 piecers as i always thought they weren't really my thing but your's may of changed my mind, the Sansui and JVC are gorgeous.

You've got a great eye for the classics. There's a distinct tone throughout this lineup. Sanyo and Aiwa mini's are gems.

I do like that Panasonic RX-C20. Do the speakers detach?

The red Sanyo M7880K is wonderful, looks better in red than blue.

Hitachi TRK-8800 is a very rare machine. The only other one I've seen belonged to respected member Litfan.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments much appreciated!

Yeah this was a great find I've never seen another nor any other boxes with this brand, got this at a carboot sale for £6. It didn't look so good when I got it, had to buy a smashed up Crown for the cassette door and keys.
    Here's a before picture:

    DSC01450.JPG

Yeah multi piece boxes are often overlooked, but there are few everyone should have:)

Yeah space is a problem most of my boxes are in this one small room, not ideal I'd love to able to display them all properly. My problem is I also have a large collection of walkman (300+) vintage radios (100+) Discman (50+) and there's more, vintage CD players, loudspeakers etc etc.

The elephant I love it, Ebay bargain!

The Rx-C20's speakers do detach, the 7880 in red one of my real favourites, anhe 8800 a rare machine so much better than the more common 8190/8290's

We seem to be missing an image there.

It sounds as if you have an interesting collection there Dave. I wonder what vintage your radios are.
At one point I had loads of Valve (tube) ones but I sold them off when I moved house as I never used them.
Then I tried to collect the entire Sony SW range. I still have the 2001D, 2010, SW1, SW100 and a couple of
    different 7600s.

An interesting thought. I wonder what your collection cost when new. Even in todays money it might have
been more than your house. In 1980s money definitely.

My radios are from the late 50's through to the very early 70's I decided to collect mainly one brand Bush, to try and keep the numbers down, also only transistor or battery valve sets. I had owned a Bush MB60 for as long as I can remember and restoring this started my radio collecting.

I have the Panasonic RX C20 which is an exceptional box with amazing bass for it's size! I also have the Panny DT680, but both of the decks are faulty due to chipped gear teeth on the super thin gears they decided to use at the time. I have an old bookshelf unit with the same decks, but Haven't got around to swapping some parts out of it yet.

My hobby pal thinks that this Tungsram is a Hungarian brand back then.
At least the logo is the same.

Tungsram is in one of Hungary's largest, oldest, and internationally most prestigious firms, known for light bulbs and electronics.

Thanks for the answer Dave. I have only just read tis as I'm currently on holifay in Lanzarote. I had to check what a MB60 is. I have the transistor version and the one with VHF (the original 1960s version) which all use the same case. Also have a Bush TR130 that has been in the family about 50 years now. How time flies.

As for Tungsram I have definitely seen their light bulbs. In the U.K. the sort of thing you get in discount stores or Markets some of which still sell incandescants "rough service for industrial use only" of course
