I’ve listened to countless hours of music using my old Sony STR-VX550 but recently I tried turning it on and it just didn’t work. Almost everything on the small display was lit up and a loud buzz came through my speakers. I haven’t changed anything, it just stopped working. I’ve tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, different outlets, leaving it on for hours, leaving it off and unplugged for days but none of that works. Does anyone know what could’ve caused this and if there’s any solution for this.

    thank you.

Although it is far less common than some people think, it is probably a capacitor failed (they eventually dry out). That is what happened in my Panasonic PVR giving similar symptoms. Luckily there was lots of information online about which capacitor to change.

Are you using the turntable? I'd disconnect everything and try it with headphones if there's a jack. It might need to go in for service, be careful it may be overheating, I wouldn't leave it on unattended.
