Here it is maybe a last sighting for 2016 that says goodbye to us fast ! I Think its an Orion i already have . Not many Orions are out there. I didnt get it though. Here you go. and here is mine :
I definitely would have snagged it. It's a great looking unit, but I'd have grabbed it just because we never see decent vintage gear in the thrifts anymore here in the States. I'm sure someone will get lucky sooner than later.
Consignment shops are great places to find things like this. Not overpriced like Ebay and you can see the goods in person.
..and the First sighting for 2017 . Its a Panasonic with a turntable can anyone id it? I must agree with Your comment Jamescyberjoe , this kind of stores are always cheaper than ebay.
I had the Panasonic turntable box awhile ago and it was a solid machine. I didn't like the ceramic cartridge as it sounded tinny and wore the record easily. But that's the nature of the beast.
Its in a 1986 advert (bottom right) for a bargain £79.90. That was low enough for my Father (who always liked a bargain) to get one. Amusing that Deech picked exactly the same camera angle as the photographer 31 years ago.,
Longman i love this Currys advert back from 1986, makes you feel like you are transported with a time capsule 31 years ago. A time for which most of us were more naive and the world was not so crazy. Being only a kid then seeing this magic world of electronics was truly amazing.
That's cool. I wonder what the exchange rate was at that time. I bought mine for $150 USD around 1987. I sold it long ago. It was a bargain too. It's amazing that there was a time when Japanese made things were good AND cheap. I tried to buy one recently but on Ebay it's too expensive and second hand at that. I bought a Teac turntable with a CD player/burner and a SD card/USB player/burner with a radio and a pair of speakers. It's amazingly solid. Not a portable but equivalent. My daughter just bought me a Crosley traveler portable record player for Christmas.. It's amazing how good it sounds.
Just out of topic, Ω-ΣΚ95 Just realized you are Tony from the old site. You Canadians are nice people , wish i knew you in person you and Brutus-Geoff and join your meets like Sal did. Plus these last few days i can understand how you guys feel up North i m at home for 5 days in a row after so much snow fell here and after being unprepared for that caught a bad cold and had to stay in bed with a fever. the last 3 of them , hence my constant appearance in the forums Cant even see my newborn niece.. this is the worst of all . Sorry guys had to say it.
We miss you to Deech. I know we're straying off topic but get well soon my friend! Maybe you can join us at the next Canadian meet?? Just bring the market with you P.S it warmed up today to 5C
Kmart also marketed a model under MacDonald Instruments that looked identical to this Orion. I visited an old friend and he had one sitting on his dresser. He just plays the radio. Says the tape deck stopped worked long ago. I offered to buy it but he wouldn't sell. Oh well!
