I definitely would have snagged it.
It's a great looking unit, but I'd have grabbed it just because we never see decent vintage gear in the thrifts anymore here in the States.
I'm sure someone will get lucky sooner than later.

Consignment shops are great places to find things like this. Not overpriced like Ebay and you can see the goods in person.

I had the Panasonic turntable box awhile ago and it was a solid machine. I didn't like the ceramic cartridge as it sounded tinny and wore the record easily. But that's the nature of the beast.

Its in a 1986 advert (bottom right) for a bargain £79.90. That was low enough for my Father (who always liked a bargain) to get one.

Amusing that Deech picked exactly the same camera angle as the photographer 31 years ago.,

Longman i love this Currys advert back from 1986, makes you feel like you are transported with a time capsule 31 years ago.
A time for which most of us were more naive and the world was not so crazy. Being only a kid then seeing this magic world of
    electronics was truly amazing.:)

That's cool. I wonder what the exchange rate was at that time. I bought mine for $150 USD around 1987. I sold it long ago. It was a bargain too. It's amazing that there was a time when Japanese made things were good AND cheap. I tried to buy one recently but on Ebay it's too expensive and second hand at that. I bought a Teac turntable with a CD player/burner and a SD card/USB player/burner with a radio and a pair of speakers. It's amazingly solid. Not a portable but equivalent.

My daughter just bought me a Crosley traveler portable record player for Christmas.. It's amazing how good it sounds.

Kmart also marketed a model under MacDonald Instruments that looked identical to this Orion. I visited an old friend and he had one sitting on his dresser. He just plays the radio. Says the tape deck stopped worked long ago. I offered to buy it but he wouldn't sell. Oh well!
