My apologies if this is a stupid question but I'm looking for some help in replacing the two antennas on my Sanyo m9994. I picked this beauty up for a buck 5 or 6 years ago at an estate sale and I'm finally pulling the trigger on getting this baby up and running. I'd like to track down all the parts I can in advance of bring it into to the repair shop... Not sure if there are universal antennas I can use or if there is a specific type i need.. I also have a Sanyo m9990 that has one of the acrylic covers for one of the vu meters broken out. Is there a parts number so i can track down a replacement or another vu meter I can use from another model I can use as a donor? thanks in advance!
It depends on how much of it you need, there's usually two main pieces, the extendable shaft and the rotating joint it screws onto. Some boomboxes will have a completely different antenna that only extends straight out but 80% have the same construction with rotating antenna that can be set at different angles. Most replacements are just the shaft, hopefully you have the bottom part and the little screw. I get mine on ebay, usually there's one that's really close to the original size or has the box number in it's description. The best replacements will have about 1/2" of the final piece of shaft exposed when fully compressed and look at the size, most boombox antennas are around 1/8", TV antennas might be larger at 1/4." If you get a close replacement nobody will know, just shoot for 1/2"-3/4" of exposed shaft and you should be fine. Parts are a pain, sometimes someone will chime in if they have a parts box or search the model and put "parts" with it. The other method is make your own out of acrylic or polycarbonate, here's an Amazon Link, it's .o4" thick, confirm what you think your's is. https://www.amazon.com/Plexiglass-S...cphy=9019552&hvtargid=pla-1196404503762&psc=1 Both of these plastics can be cut using wood-working tools, it looks like there might be a raised panel so you'd need some decent skills and equipment for the little pieces. I think both of them can be "flame-polished" meaning that if you heat the sides they will get clear instead of having saw marks. Nice boxes by the way, I've posted a ton of Sanyo Ads down in the brochure forum in the newspaper ads.
Thank you for the reply! Sorry for such a late response. I ended up tracking down a parts unit for my m9994 as well as a couple of antennas that should work, both units as well as my Lasonic TRC-922 are at the shop being serviced right now.
