As usual I was avoiding paperwork by looking at old electronics ads and spied this new to me, super cool Seiko UC-2100 Smart Watch. As usual, the stuff I find extremely interesting also goes for silly money now a days. Anybody own one of these, or played with one?
Have you seen this before Boodokhan? It popped up in a search and I can't help but love the style. I've been watching vintage computer videos on youtube and resisting the urge to picking up some of the smaller cool looking pieces like this and other calculator/computer dock combinations. I have a pretty large calculator collection from the old days Walkman hunting but very few of the programmable versions every showed up back then.
Are you aware of the Seiko TV watch from around the same time ? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=seiko+tv+watch&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=iznHJVhqWX9MCM%3A%2Cl4ESNCJ5FNWyGM%2C_&usg=AI4_-kRgxh1EdAQ4ADp9CxOVkqQciwa5-w&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjw1Le1vbHeAhXmkYsKHQoLDQ8Q9QEwBXoECAUQDg#imgrc=B0i42l-QLhXPFM:&spf=1541016397470 However, you needed a Walkman size tuner box (shown in the background) to use it. It was futuristic enough to appear in James Bond Regarding Databank watches I have a few Casio's which are self contained. They made a lot of sense when you had to go to a call box to make a call when on the move.
That Seiko is so neat, it would make my day to find one of these at a thrift store or garage sale. I have one of the Casio Databank Watches that holds a calendar and contact list, it will sync to a PC. It was from a series of maybe three different watches, a data bank, an MP3, and maybe a TV watch? From the early 2000's.
I found some information, some of these are really neat. https://www.fastcompany.com/3036368...istory-of-forgotten-proto-smartwatches-1975-2 https://books.google.com/books?id=o...dq=seiko tv-watch&pg=PA76#v=onepage&q&f=false
Found this whilst searching online. This guy has a lot of cool flyers for Japanese things on his Tumbler feed, some very cool stuff!
first I saw it on Instagram few years ago. Then I searched Ebay and found one with original accessories in mint condition. I was not aware of the price so i placed a bid and next day i found out the item was sold much higher than what I placed (don't remember exactly). I will buy one someday but at this time this item is not on my daily Ebay search.
I'm very lucky because I have it in mint condition. Not only that, I have all three different versions (grey plastic, black and gold) as well as the TV watch. Here are some photos of them. This is the later RC-4500: And here's the TV watch:
That's unbelievable awesome Walkman archive, you even have the TV, true marvels of 80's engineering. I've said it before, phones have killed all this electronic creativity and even worse phones all look the same now a days, we were all lucky to see the golden age for a ton of products, I don't think it will come back.
Well, for now you can do as I have: Wear a armband holder on your wrist, and pretend you're from an alternate future where the tech-dreams of the 1950s were realized and your smartphone is a wrist-T.V./telephone!
