I've had this Sony ICF-CD2000 for years, I'm sure it was the spoils of the CD dustoff in the mid-thousands and I thought it was kind of interesting when I found it at the local thrift store.

Basically it's a portable CD player sold as a portable clock radio, it even has an antenna on the back for the built in tuner. With "world time" and a large display with alarm, it's the travelling business executives perfect companion. The build date is August of 1999 and there's just enough quality in it to overcome all the plastic parts and it looks futuristic with the top open.

What is the sound quality like ?
I remember when these came out but didn't like the look of the tiny speakers.
If you have ever heard an ICF-SW1000 you will know that tiny = tinny.

The speakers are so cute behind that mesh cover, and yes, it's the bare minimum for quality but sometimes it's just nice to have a little music playing. I'm surprised you've seen these, I wasn't familiar with it before but thought it was nice enough to grab for a couple dollars.

I think they were £100 when they first came out, compared to around £50 for a basic discman. When I have time I will have to look through some catalogues. The styling is trying to look like a portable DVD player, which were around at the time but cost about £400.

I got my first RCA portable CD player in 96 and it was about $50 USD but I could use it in my car with it's included cassette tape adaptor. It must have been a nice unit back then.
