Sony WM-F55 tape mechanism autoreverse problem

I replaced the idler tyre and belt but it just wants to cycle FWD then REV and back non stop.
all looks fine inside.
If remove the white gear just under the REV capstan then it will play FWD fine.

Doing my head in grrr
