I snatched this cool collection from my favorite new record and equipment shop here in town, when I get some free time maybe I can play with it more but it looks pretty interesting. They're using the IEC (Prague) 1981 standard for these four tapes and they include 1. MTT-256U Freq 2. MTT-150 Dolby Level Calibration Tone 3. MTT-114N Azmuith 4. MTT-111DN Flutter The tapes all have a serial number and look untouched, anybody seen this collection?
Very interesting. I have a new calibration cassette made by ANT, but I'd like to also have ones like these. They are unvaluable tools for testing and calibrating decks and walkmans.
Teac made a few different tapes Derek marshall, including the really cool reel to reel model that goes for silly money. In fact I just checked and all of the Teac Blank Cassettes go for big money these days, I don't think I own one or have seen a blank TEAC Cassette over the years, pretty much non-existent like Nakamichi and Technics Tapes... Minnesota thrifts sometimes have odd items, more so a few years ago, from the audio industry. At one time we had robust audio manufacturing along with a ton of speaker guys here. 3M is headquartered here (Wollansack, Scotch, Mincom, Imation, etc) I just drove by Magnapan (Magnaplaner) a few days ago and Audio Research is also still manufacturing here. I worked for the company that bought out Nortronics, a huge head manufacturer at one time. These items sometimes end up for sale and you have to grab them when you get the chance, I'm sure a lot of this ended up in the dumpster when everyone thought tape was dead in the late 90's. I just found this website while looking for Nortronics Information, there's some great information on tape heads on it. http://www.jrfmagnetics.com/index.html?JRF_mainframe=/JRF_nortronics.html Great eye cmarti....The Sansui FR-4060 is one of my favorites, just a huge chunky looking 70's masterpiece, this one is doing daily duty right now but I don't want to rotate it yet.
