Is this the way it's going? A decent price in my view, although we all dream to get XL-IIs or even TDK-AR, or AD-X eh! Last new tapes I saw for sale were XL-II in a fantastic oldy worldy audio/video shop in Amsterdam in the summer Any other blanks spotted on sale in UK shops? I usually get decent tapes from boot sales and charity / junk shops, the best of which was a sealed TDK MA last year.
I can't find them on the Argos website (although they are still selling Cassette Recorders). However, for quite a few years they were selling those same Maxell URs. I guess there is still enough demand that Maxell keep making them. I have posted link to the current Sony CD Radio Cassette before https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio...m-boombox-black-10146258-pdt.html#srcid=11026 read the reviews and you will realise that the Maxell URs are perfectly good for the demographic buying them.
I noticed these Bush cassettes, for some reason they don't show up when you use the search feature on the website. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5583...MIlJqmvP7X1wIVyZPtCh2QHQTrEAQYASABEgLrDPD_BwE
If anyone in the UK wants Maxells URs and can't find them in Wilko I have just seen the same packs in Tesco (Eastvillem Bristol Superstore) on the shelf below the memory cards etc. Their price was £4.80 which still works out at less than £1 a tape.
I have some of these and stacks of TDK FE90's, i have lots of packs of 5 tapes. If anyone wants a pack for free let me know, just pay postage
These tapes are crap. They get stuck at the start of the tape/end of leader on Sade A. Tested a bunch, all ten failed. Nearly screwed Christmas presents to my nephews. Two machines, WM-318 and WM-D6C, torque seems to be the issue. OK on a Nakamichi BX300 but awful for portable use. Can't be worn in, doesn't work. Avoid at all costs.
Just a heads up for UK board members should they still wish to take a punt. Got a five pack yesterday from a UK high street store Wilko. 5 x UR 90 for £4. Hopefully will be trying them out soon. https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/maxell-u...-5pk/p/0455057 Packaging on my tapes is same as website. I understand board member greg didn't have the best experience, which is disappointing. Has anyone else used these tapes recently? How did they perform?
Very old post but, I just did a quick high street tour. Wilkos still have the maxell listed for £4 but no stock. Argos only list Bush cassettes at 4 for 9.99 which is almost certainly a rip off. Although they do also stock several tape decks now, two Sony and a pair of Bush machines... Boots no, Sony Centre no, WH Smith’s no, all the stationary shops no, hardware stores no.
It might be worth trying a big Tesco as I have seen the Maxell URs in there Poundland were selling blank cassettes last time I went in there. However, they weren't a brand I had ever heard of and I think they were £6 for three. It wan't clear as they were next to some USB power packs on a shelf labelled £6.
