Hello everyone, I started "repairing" Walkmans a few years ago, had some successes and some failures, but I keep on tinkering trying to get better. I'm currently working on a sony WM-ex5 and ran into an issue. Replaced the belt, no issues, rotated the wheels both directions, a mechanism engaged, I thought nothing of it and put the back on closed it up and went to open it, but it wouldn't budge. After releasing the door catch with a safety pin, I noticed that one of the pinch rollers was engaged. My gumstick battery is not in yet, so I applied 1.5 volts to where the AA battery case would go and got power, but can't get the roller or play head to disengage. Any ideas? Don't want to break anything but want to get this fixed. Kicking myself for not just putting the belt in and closing it up. Had to go engage something and get it stuck! Any advice or details on the device or similar would be appreciated!
Welcome, sorry I can't help you with your unit. I'd open it back up and rotate everything again to try to get it into the stop position. maybe you dropped a screw or a wire is pinching the mechinism.
I have the same problem. Apparently the unit needs to “reset’ itself by a couple short-circuits on the PCB. I have yet to try this myself, but it’s in the service manual “Section 2 Service Note”. Post your results here if you decide to move forward on this.
