Panasonic RQ-SX75 fully restored
retrodos - 2012-01-01 18:19
Bought this Panasonic RQ-SX75 about a couple months back, wasn't working, won't play right at all, even thur seller said 100% working order, it wasn't. This is a common problem with the SX series Panasonics the black locking washer cracked and pressure pad under gear slips causing erratic speed in playback. All you have to do is epoxy or glue it back together and also replaced the two small belts that drive the capstons and gear assy. Did give it a very good cleaning, as I removed all the gears, so now works and looks like brandnew. Does require desoldering, if you need to change the belts, you have to desolder the servo rotor motor, relay and contact switches.
Great Pictures

Hello Retrodos and fellows. I know this thread is over 2 years old, but I am trying to restore a very similar Panasonic model (RQ-SX25V) that has the same problem.
I wanted to ask your valuable help to explain more detailed how should I mount or adapt the cracked black locking washer back. I am attaching a picture showing separated parts.
I do not know what is the correct position, or how to glue it. Thanks in advance for your attention!

Hi.
This is common mistake - the black ring is not cracked. This "crack" or split exists there from the beginning. This black ring is specially shaped washer - it was split in order to be able to attach it to the center gear. However, after many years the plastic material looses it's elasticity, so it is not able to keep together.
If you want to glue it, you must do it while it is attached. Apply small amount of epoxy glue on the top of this ring. However, epoxy is not suitable for this kind of plastic, so it is not the best solution. Better approach is to glue small washer (or any plastic ring) on the top of the ring.
The best approach is to replace the small tiny washer that is attached to the top of the axis (the one that keeps the "cracked" plastic ring attached) with the larger one. In this case you do not need to glue anything and this is permanent solution.

Thanks man! I believe I can replace the tiny washer that forces the kit to be together. When I disassembled that, I noticed small fragments of white plastic that must falled from the wasted white washer.
I will update this post as soon I can replace it. Thanks a lot for your information! Best wishes.

Hi.
This is very nice model. The amorphous head used in this model is the best I've seen. Electronics is also very well designed. However the mechanics is not that good, it is noisy, W/F is average and power consumption is very high.
I'm afraid there's no service manual available. However, it uses the same mechanics as all Panasonic RQ-S models, so the belt replacement procedure is very similar for any of them.
If you need any help, just let me know. I've fixed dozens of similar models.

Hi and thanks for answering
well I am stuck with this walkman
as far as I remember , not only I couldn't find the SM , but also many of the IC's datasheet
I did change the belt (desoldering everything) thinking I could solve the main problem afterwards.
but it is now out of order ... with a new belt !
