Hi guys, I signed up to learn more about cassette repairing and hopefully be able to pass on any new information/knowledge to other users. Not new to cassettes/decks having been born in the 80s, but became interested with portable players again as I still have a few tapes laying around. I recently picked up a Walkman with the intent of fully restoring it. Any help/feedback will be appreciated. Thank You!
Hello Clockwork4168 Welcome. What model is your walkman? Find the service manual if it is not working. We have members who can help you if you specify the model number of your walkman.
Hi Boodokhan, I own a WM-EX1 and have looked at the service manual for assistance with replacing the belt. However, I'm running into some issues with sounds being really distorted (wow and flutter?). I posted more about it in the tech area. Will appreciate any help I can get. http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/reparing-a-sony-walkman-wm-ex1.1593/
Welcome! You might have to motors speed which should be a small screw either on or near the motor? Apparently it's not very easy to get to on this model.
Hi Chris, is this the trimpot you're referring to? According to the service manual it's a screw near the battery compartment but adjusting it didn't seem to do anything. I didn't notice a change in the speed, just constant slowdown and distortion.
I don't own an EX1 so I don't know where it would be, they are usually located near the motor though.
