I was cleaning out part of the stacks last night and found this old guy, untouched since I unearthed him years ago. It's actually in pretty good shape and the good news is that it fires right up and plays although the volume is muted out through the built in speaker and I didn't test the outputs. The unit is very beefy with metal construction and may qualify as a uni-box or portable recording unit. I'd love to find a big fat JVC shoulder strap to put on it and take it to the beach.
and a Partridge family cassette to play on it. As that series finished in 1974 I wonder how old that is ? In the early 1970s most girls fancied either David Cassidy, Donny Osmond or a Bay City Roller .
I thought it was more late 70's, I'll have to see if there's any identification on it, most of this old stuff has date codes.

Mystic, I did a little digging into your unit and it might qualify as a "Casseiver." While I remember the TT/AMP/Radio/Cassette units, I never saw a casseiver in my youth, the hybrid of a cassette, radio and amp in one unit, more like a field recorder and a radio added on. There's also some really good looking component casseivers out there, I found a couple of blogs that talk about them. Unfortunately they're in a different language but the photos are nice. From my memory Casseiver always referred to a full size Hi Fi "separate"; They were a Receiver with a tape deck added. Most buyers wouldn't need to add much more than a speakers and maybe a record deck to complete their system. There are some nice photos on that Russian site especially the Sony units. Have a look on Youtube and there are a few Casseivers including a Marantz being demonstrated.
There's a really nice looking Technics but I lost the link, much shorter than the ones in the links, just a hair bigger than a cassette tape, a very nice looking unit.
Yes, spot on, this Sony could be a field recorder back in the day, one of its purposes. Was pretty expensive back then.
