Sony WM-7 Restoration

Since there's a request from our S2G member, it's my pleasure to share my experience with you as I worked on my WM-7 today. Following are the steps that I would like to walk you through the images.

1) Change new Belt
2) Volume pot replacement

 

Slowly lift the cover from the top where the control button panel located.

 

Then firmly pry the control button panel and slowly detach it from the unit.

 

Next remove the shoulder screws that hold the PCB in place.

 

Slowly lift the PCB in order to access to the mechanism. Doing so you will be able to see the belt but please be extremely careful and gentle not to break any wires from the soldering points.

 

This is the volume pot that I need to replace.

 

No choice I have to salvage the potentiometer from my WM2 as I don't have any spare with me.

 

Took me around an hour to get the parts replaced.

 

Now my WM-7 is working as good as new, the wow and flutter has improved significantly and the volume adjustment is smooth with both sides in perfect condition.

Today I started to work on one WM-7. It has blocked pinch roller and I have to replace it somehow. For that, I need to get access to the whole head block. The door cannot be removed easily.
.There must be some way how to take apart the whole mechanics from the the case. Just I need to find the right screws Really challenging.
Does anyone have experiences with it? Does anyone have service manual?
