I found this on a recent shopping trip in Cash Convertors, reduced from £60 to £50. No Brainer! The (pretty!) girl in the shop let me try a tape but it started chewing it up, so needs a strip down and clean. The capstans are moving so there is life! Everything else works perfectly, in pretty good shape too, few little marks here and there. She sounds great too, the equaliser definitely makes a difference. Has quite a complicated tape section with 'APLD' and 'APPS' whatever they do! There are versions of this without the clock, though this one is programmable with a sleep timer and the ability to switch on and record a radio show then switch off again, not tried this yet though. Even the aerial is in perfect condition, no broken parts, just the decks that probably need re-belting. Anyway, pictures!
Very nice find Yeah fresh belts will sort it, it's great that you found this in the wild, a rare thing these days!
The unexpected surprises of Cash Converters! The last week i found a transistor radio from the eighties, it costs only 2€!! Enjoy with your new boombox!! Las sorpresas inesperadas de Cash Converters! La semana pasada encontré una radio a transistores de los ochenta, costó sólo dos euros!! Disfruta con tu nuevo boombox!!
APLD = Automatic Program Locate Device APPS = Auto programme search system back in the days when computers ran programs rather than "Apps" which kept messing up my search. Basically they allow you to fast forward or rewind a programmed number of tracks. Five on your deck judging from the number of associated LEDs.[/QUOTE] I would guess they might also wear out your heads and tape in double quick time.
Had a mess about with it the other day and managed to get deck 1 working, deck 2 tries to but can't, so just going to re-belt both decks. Also had a result at the car breakers yard at the weekend, found a Volvo with a few cassettes in the boot and a carry box, so grabbed that! One is a nice chromium tape so I'm going to test my mates WM-D6C with a recording and see what all the fuss is about! Also found a brand new head cleaner in another car (also a Volvo!)
