I finally had a chance to check out the world's biggest boombox sculpture at the Franconia Sculpture Park. Pretty cool and impressive, this has survived some of the harshest weather since it's installation. The pickers have grabbed any doors and buttons that they could get off but still pretty neat.

This structure should be very close to you
I wish it was located somewhere with a cover to avoid damage/ rust....

It was actually pretty popular, I had to politely ask if people could move so I could get a photo.

Interesting they would allow that. How long has it been up? Seems like rain and snow would eventually leach heavy metals and other toxins from the radios into the ground. Maybe they required him to remove all the circuit boards.

I think it's been up a couple of years and I was surprised that the boxes seem to be in pretty good condition. Maybe the sculpture will move on to Walkmans next.

Ask yourself what the traditional roofing material for old churches and cathedrals is ........... Lead.
Working in the electronics industry I have to deal with RoHS etc. We now have to get all components assessed for tin whisker risk as this can cause unreliability in lead free equipment. My personal opinion is that they should have concentrated more on recycling than banning substances like lead that still get used in things like Spacecraft where reliability is a top priority.

p.s. Nice sculpture. It would be even more fun if there was a way of playing things through it

My travels through life have presented many opportunities to see waste and hazardous waste. Minnesota is pretty hard-core when it comes to ground contamination and this installation is a few blocks from the Saint Croix River. I understand Reli's Comment and believe me they'd be all over it if it was an issue. We actually have several companies in town that melt circuit boards down and extract the metals which includ gold, silver and platinum. There's enough of this stuff to make money doing the recovery. The process is very interesting, and hazardous itself, I think the throw everything in sulfuric acid and it literally melts everything.

    Same issue again
It is installed somewhere with exposure to rain and sun. after several years this structure will turn to a big junk.
