My dream walkman would be the Wm-3. I like it for it's TPS-l2 look but I prefer it's black color over the blue.
Hi cameron. Nice looking unit. Hav'nt seen one of those in black. Does it have the 30 mw output as in the wm-4? Thanks for reply.
I'm actually unsure. Based on what I can find on WM Archive and WM central, Since the WM-3 is a slightly altered version of the Tps-l2 (there were very few changes, mainly cosmetically, model name, and some very minor mechanical changes) I'm thinking it has the same 15 mA output as it's blue colored cousin. Sorry for the late reply, busy week.
Hi Cameron. The early walkmans had a very good headphone amp'. Back in the early nineties i recorded all my classical music on to Sony/ t.d.k. metal tapes using Sony e.s. range of decks. Through the wm-4 they all sound very nice. How does your wm-3 sound? I have some early d.d. walkmen but i just still love the sound of my wm-4. I dont bother about how much these units are worth, i just love listening to my music. Thanks for reply.
I actually bought a boodo khan this week. It will need some work but it will be rewarding. Very excited for this delivery! But I have to keep it secret as the rent is due...
Hi speedy2.0. Nice. Never heard the Boodo Khan but from what iv'e heard it's very nice. Hopefully it will just need new belts. Does it take 4 aa's or 2? Keep me posted how you get on with repair. Regards from Heathfield-UK.
WM-DD100 (Boodokhan) looks very similar to all DD walkmans, the mechanism like all DD walkmans is direct drive ( doesn't need a belt) and like all direct drive walkmans uses 2 batteries. It is one of the highest collectible walkmans and really hard to find.
For me, II have a fair few of what would have been my Holy Grails. Too many if the truth be told. In no particular order DD9 DC2 DD100 BK D6C D3 But then I’m also very partial to a mint HS-p5 MK1&2 and the 202 (all versions) I have several WM-701c’s, which were high on my list for ages but each one has disappointed. Despite being serviced, stupid levels of w&f. Looks nice. Hasn’t aged well though in terms of performance. I’m getting ready for another trip soon for a film that will see me headed to Hawaii and then Oz via Hong Kong for 5 months. No doubt I’ll pick up a few at the Hong Kong flea markets which I’m really excited about. But the big question remains.... what unit to take with me. Probably a DC2 for serous listening and one of my new minty German warehouse found HS-pc202’s for regular listening (I bought 5!). Holy Grail walkmans is quite a loose term however. Like the 701’s, I went through a phase of really wanting a wm-w800. Always wanted one from the moment I saw them released. A double cassette Walkman was mind blowing. However, the reality of them is that they are really just two average machines bolted together. Great to look at. But I hate machines that have those semi covered Capstans. So now they are just pretty things to look at. I don’t use them. I always tell myself that with over 100 great machines, enough is enough. But then that late night glass of wine and a cheeky look at EBay proves too tempting, and suddenly a new Holy Grail I never knew I wanted rears it’s head and says “Hello.... you know you want me!”
