Hi there, I recently purchased my first Walkman in 25 years. It's a WM-D3 and in need of repair. I'm hoping you can please help me diagnose what may be wrong? I'm very hesitant to open it myself, even after reading Marian's excellent repair guide, and will happily pay one of the experts on here to bring it back to spec. * The play, rewind, and fast forward buttons usually need to be held down. Rarely will they click into place when you press them. Sometimes they click into place though. * Rewind doesn't work if a cassette is in the unit. Starts for a couple rotations and then stops. If there is no cassette in the unit, pressing rewind does cause the spindle to spin (if I hold the button down, as per above). But it makes a clicking noise. (Fast forward works whether there is a cassette in the unit or not, if I hold down the button.) * When the play button is held down, it plays sound but I can hear the unit's motor (or gear) clicking. * The left spindle seems like it isn't affixed properly. Sometimes it won't spin, and if I unjam it with my fingers, I can easily lift the spindle right off. Wonder if the above (other than the spindle issue) are likely caused by a cracked center gear that could be fixed with one of Marian's repair kits (by someone with experience, not me)? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated! Also, would love to hear from an expert willing to please repair my unit and who isn't backlogged into the next century? Thank you so much!
Hello lucifer23 Obviously your walkman needs to be restored/ repaired. Most probably by replacing the central gear and lubrication it will start working. You can contact the following people to repair your walkman: @Sergi @mihokm @Doctor Walkman @matic777 (all from Europe) Unfortunately you have to be patient regarding the waiting time.
Thank you! I just realized I accidentally posted this in the Boombox tech forum not Walkman tech. Apologies!
Similar situation here.....anyone located in North America? I value these units and the experience and expertise, but I just checked shipping prices to Europe and it's a little crazy!
You are right about shipping cost. Unfortunately We do not know anybody in North America to repair our equipments.
