Hi everyone. Have been away for a few weeks. Have a question which i know has been asked before. Am listening to my Sony wm- d6c using the Sony ac adaptor-AC-D4M which is rated 6volts/400m/a. The walkman plays fine. I also have the Sony AC adaptor AC-D4HG rated at 700m/a. Can anyone tell me how much current the wm-d6c would draw because it is playing fine on the 400 m/a ac adaptor. Look forward to hearing from the experts.

The 400mA adaptor should be fine. The only time when a D6C may draw more than 400mA is when rewinding or fast forwarding and the end of the tape has been reached. For a few seconds between reaching the end of the tape and the power supply to the motor being cut, the current draw may exceed 400mA. There is a rotation sensor on the supply side spool which detects when the tape has stopped winding and cuts the power to the motor.

This is a good time to remind anybody looking for a power supply or adaptor for a WM-D6 or D6C to make sure that it is wired with the centre pin negative. If a centre pin positive supply is used, this will destroy the CX20084 motor drive IC (WM-D6C) and possibly the 6-11V DC convertor. If the CX20084 IC is destroyed, the motor will run fast.
I have seen power supplies advertised specificially for the WM-D6C on Ebay, which are centre pin positive. Anybody buying a supply or adaptor for a D6 or D6C needs to be very careful!

Hi Deb64. Thanks for prompt reply. I use the 400ma adaptor all the time with my d-6c's because i want to keep the official AC-D4HG in reserve. I even checked the polarity on the 4HG with a meter just to make sure. Thanks again, Derek.

Hi Deb. I need your expert advice. I have not done any tape recording since the nineties when I had my Sony ES tape deck etc. I have two WM d-6c's that I want to record onto. I shall be using type 1 and 2 tapes. Hs e never recorded on to the d-6c before so can you tell me exactly the sequence. I shall barcoding from the d-z555 discman on to the d-6c from line out on the discman to line in on the d-6c. In the d-6c user manual it says to press pause and then record button. Does that mean once I insert a tape into the d-6c and a disc into the d-z555 press play on the discman the d-6c will automatically start recording? How do I adjust the recording level before I start recording? Forgive my ignorance but after so long I just cannot remember. Regards, Derek.

First insert the cassette into the D6C, press pause on the D6C to put the unit into pause mode. When you press record on the D6C, it will put the unit into a record / pause mode.
No the D6C will not start recording when you press play on the player you are recording from, to start recording on the D6C press the pause button to take the D6C out of record pause mode.

For recording level, I would recommend recording a little bit making notes of levels on the meter and record level on the record knob. Rewind and play what you just recorded and listen to hear what you just recorded, adjust from there till you get what you like. Once happy then start your real recording.
