So my name's Jurgen and I'm more of a headphone guy, but that doesn't mean I don't have an interest in other audio devices Currently, my main listening setup exists out of a Dragonfly Red + O2 Amp and several headphones: Audeze LCD-2, Senn HD650, and 2 Massdrops namely Senn HD58X and Fostex TH-X00. I hope to read some interesting stuff from time to time, so that's why I joined this forum Cheers!
Welcome Jurgen, head-phones are 1/3 of the culture. I've got a ton of old stuff like Pioneer, Koss, Sony, etc, I was grabbing them while everyone was getting rid of them. I don't have anything I would consider new-tech and would love to read more insight on your set-ups, feel free to post away.
Welcome to Stereo2go Jurgen I too like headphones but only for portable listening, so for that purposes i have a heavily modified Beyerdynamic T70, Etymotic ER-4SR, Audio Technica CKW1000ANV Limited and a few more.
Welcome Jurgen. Good to see that you have some excellent amps and headphones. I've read that the O2 sounds a bit 'lifeless' compared to other amps. How do you feel it with your 650s?
Actually, I don't have much experience with amps and dacs, since these things tend to be quite expensive... and there's lots of controversy online about whether or not these +1000 dollar machines are worth it. So that's why I carefully chose my budget setup: Dragonfly Red as a DAC and the O2 as an amp. Honestly, I can't say I notice much if anything with the O2 in the chain (I'm just fooling myself that it give clean power...). Seriously, I've read that it is supposed to be a very neutral sounding amp, so that would explain that it would not sound as exciting as other amps. The Dragonfly, on the other hand, I can clearly hear the difference with or without it. The sound is much cleaner/clearer and has more depth. Until recently (last weekend that is) my combo is the only combo I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I went to my first audio show where I got the chance to listen to some very expensive stuff. And behold, it sounded even better than my setup Even more depth, more slam, more space between the instruments. This was a Chord Hugo TT 2 + Chord Hugo M Scaler (still skeptical about upscaling though) which is supposed to be a bit more costly than my setup
Cool! I had the 1.2 before the Red. Do you notice a difference between them? For me, the Red made a positive difference compared to the 1.2. I noticed better depth and separation.
