Beer and Boomboxes!

Thanks Reli, I can't believe that's 1977, it must weigh a ton and I love the protection bars on the side.

 

A late night on the deck was more fun with the Hitachi TRK-8290H cranked up. I haven't used this one enough to get a feel for it but it's got a great tuner section able to pull in stations some of my other boxes can't. Just great looking and well built with the most important dual antenna setup.

We have a new brewery in town, Lakes & Legends, I checked out their St Gail Raspberry Honey Ale. I'm not a fan of sweet beers and wheat beers feel like a brick in the hot summer so I wasn't too sure about this one but the 7.2% kind of made me thing it wouldn't be too syrupy. This stuff is actually refreshing, I wouldn't call it sweet but more tart. It has big bubbles, not those smooth bubbles the nitros have that I can't stand. This stuff worked out perfect, I even cut up a few logs for the fire pit.

I'm not sure what's going on with my camera and the old tv look, I used a phone on this one and not my usual camera. That is a bird on the can, it just looks like a smear.

 

You've earned a place in the oldest boombox and beer category, I'm thinking a little Kraftwerk would sound good tonight with the orange full moon. I should have posted something last night since I was tweeking on equipment and enjoying a beverage after a pretty long hiatus. The box looks great Jorge, I'd keep it stock and move on to bigger and better equipment.

 

Now we have a meeting place, Boombox Brewing Company in Vancouver. Unfortunately their website is lackluster and uninspiring, especially if you like boomboxes, why do these companies use "boombox" but not throw in some of the greatest marketing tools of all time?

Beach edition, having some more Cheyboygan Brewing Blood Orange Honey on the beach. It's just warm enough to have a great swim just before sunset. Blood Orange Honey is a wheat beer but not as heavy as most of them.

 

Thanks Mystic Traveller, there's nothing better than beach, beer and a boombox. These last days of summer were just warm enough to swim and the weather was mostly sunny. I think the other people on the beach were digging the radio and it was 80's weekend with some deep cuts being played on the local radio station, just like the old days.

 

Very nice Jorge, you have some great skills and a good eye for the classic boxes. Somebody has to try plating plastic, I posted some articles a while back and can update them if you want. Just a few acids to dip everything in but fairly harmless if you wear protective gear, I think Amazon even has turn-key kits to do it. I have the books but if you look on Google Magazines and search old Popular Science or Popular Mechanics from the 50's they tell you how to do it.

Since October seems to now officially be mini-month I'm throwing up a double, I grabbed another JVC MR-200 so I can listen in faux-stereo (I posted the first unit in the chat area a few weeks ago). These mostly metal mini beasts are so nice, I popped the antenna out to show how it works. Normally it's just a nob but it pulls out of the body and really extends far, just killer design from the 70's. I got lucky when another one of the ultra-rare mini-beasts came up for sale and snapped it up with it's faux-leatherette case.

Tonight I'm enjoying a local Tin Whiskers' "Pearson's Nut Goodie" Porter in our rapidly chilling climate. Bless you boys with climate change, we had snow until May, it usually is gone in mid March, and now we have snow when it's usually around 60 degrees F. The winters are colder and the summers are wet and cold way too much these days. This special edition beer is actually really good, a nice smoky porter with a hint of nuts and chocolate, but not heavy or sweet at all, I'll definitely be getting more when I start shoveling the snow.

 

Thanks Mystic Traveller, it only popped up on my radar after I posted the ad in the brochure section a few weeks ago and then I found two of them. These were first wave mini's and were more like a modified dictation recorder so they have the heavy duty metal bodies and quality construction of the early dictation machines.

 

I was thinking more of the DIY route Reli, I posted some old articles on how to do it but these guys sell turnkey kits. I think you have to do cooper first and then chrome plate the copper. I'd love to try it if I had more free time.
