Got back from working in Rome on Friday to find a nice package on my desk.
I opened the package when I had a few minutes, to find my DC2’s all nicely repaired [IMG]

I have gone from my last 5 x DC2’s to 3 x DC2’s. See images below. I sent everything in the first image to be used to build 3 or 4 working units.
I got 3 good units out of that lot, I could have got 1 more unit but seriously I don’t need that many and the price for the next unit would be very high.
I donated some of the spare parts so it can be used on other peoples units.

I have not had a chance to listen to them yet as I have been busy.
I had many of the same units because of parts issue and the fact that not all working properly. Now that I have serviced working units, I don’t feel the need to have so many.
I have gone from over 10 DD33’s to 0, I don’t feel the need to have those units as with regards to sound quality it’s way behind D6C / DC2 / DD9.
Everything else I am reducing down to no more than 2 units, I can still rotate the units. I use Walkman everyday for my commute to and from work.
    I now have 2 x D6C’s, 1 x DD9 and I will let 1 DC2 go so to only have 2 units.

I will be hooking them up to my Etymotic ER-4SR via the Ray Samuels P-51 Mustang amp. If you want to hear everything that is going on within a mix and not have it sugar coated, The ER-4SR is the IEM to use.

The DC2 I will let go will have everything that came with it except the original headphones. So I have the original box with the correct serial number, the leather case, shoulder strap, user manual, original 3.5mm to RCA cable etc. I love the original boxes which are red [IMG]

I have been waiting for these DC2’s to come back from dottor walkman for years. After years of waiting as he is very busy as most people on this forum can attest to.
Now the question is was it worth the wait, well the answer is a resounding yes. They went away not working properly and they have now come back working as best as they can.

I finally got round to running a few tapes through them, they sound fantastic with subtle differences yes subtle differences.

For the testing I use TDK MA / MA-XG and BASF Maxima TP IV, with Etymotic ER-4SR, Ray Samuels P-51 Mustang amp linking them up with Kimber KCAG silver cables.

With this setup I can hear everything and subtle differences are noticeable.
Some of this units favour different tapes, funny the DC2 with the star on the front has an expensive taste favouring TDK MA-XG not that it does not like other tapes just that it shines better with MA-XG. Going from the BASF from unit to unit it was obvious the other units are happy with the BASF. So basically playing MA-XG on all of them they sounded really good with the star unit having a slight lead, but with the BASF I feel the other 2 had a slight advantage but not much.

I know most people play their units direct without using a separate amp, yes the DC2 is a very good unit on it’s own. Adding an amp takes the performance to a different level. DC2 on it’s own sounds good but less control in the lower registers with the bass being a bit over blown and bleeding into the lower mids therefore losing clarity in the mids area.
By adding an amp the lower registers firms up due to better control, it’s no longer bleeding into the lower mids clarity improves and you hear more of what the DC2 is doing.

Anyway I am now happy I can rotate the DC2’s weekly so not to put all wear on one unit.

    dottor walkman thanks[IMG]

Not having heard those I can attest that my DC2 (also from dottore walkman) sounds gorgeous and I bet yours too. Having three sounds like a good idea knowing that you like the DC2 so much.
I see than you have an american one (with the star) and with a silver play button, which makes it unique). I usually prefer either a DD33 or DD30 for street/noisy environment use with circumaural closed headphones or the DD9/D6C. The DC2 is unbelievably clean but to me it's a bit bright and the bass is weak compared to the D6C.

Yes I do love the DC2 and it’s my first choice for compact portability with quality, when I want the absolute best it’s the D6C with an external amp.

Like we have discussed before and both agree the D6C has a fuller sound compared to the DC2. The DD9 I do like the look of but it never sees the light of day, I find it hard to go below the DC2 for sound quality among the units i own anyway.

The DC2 with the silver play button, i made it that way as it did not come like that but i wanted it to look different hence i put the silver play button on it.

Thanks sickly_b, I am just lucky to have acquired them a long time ago before everyone discovered how good these units are.

the dc2 not only sounds better than a dd9, but it's also far better looking. it's the real 80's gem, my nr 1 favo.
years ago i did want to send my batch of dc2's,dd9's,d6c and tcd5 pro 2's to dottor, but i'm afraid it will cost something.

    @TooCooL4
i dont like the look of the dd9. it's nice, but it's not industrial, let alone mid-80's design. tcd-5 pro2 is more beautiful than a dc2, but not portable. i like square industrial boxes.. ;)
walkman to me, is 80's. ok, dd9 is end 80's,but it's that ugly bubble design. same as discman, 80's discman look better. 1992 was sony's best year, sound wise. but it took till 1995, the d777, not only the last great sony one, but a great roundish 90's design. d777 also has tube sound, great for rock + grado headphones.

oja, the tcd5 pro2 has the best lows and widest stage. the d6c has the best mids and perhaps best highs.the d6c will be the best overall. but,
i think, i prefer the tcd5 pro 2 instead of the d6c, because it has more body. also the looks are far better. and it's build quality it's by far the best of them all. total next level. like the metal switches. through the years, i like the tcd5 pro2 more and more. i never use it, just like the rest. but i like to have it in my hands and feel this beast. it's a worthy companion besides my telefunken m15,emt 950, 981,studer a68,d730,eela s120. it's all industrial box design.

Sorry Derek marshall could not resist

My D3's are missing so many parts, they will never see the light of day again.

Grado headphones, we will have to agree to disagree on that one. I have only ever heard one good Grado headphone and that was the PS500 and that was because it does not sound like a Grado

grado, you love it or hate it
    have the rs-1
i think the rs-2 is by far the best bang for the buck. buy a 2nd hand one for 250-300 euro.. that's the sweetspot, if more cheap and in good condition=go for it. it's the same as a rs-1, but smaller cups.
if i would choose again, went for the rs-2. less money...
have a he60/hev70 for 17 years. getting full revision/recap/upgrade by sennheiser at this moment. can't wait..
grado is nice for rock. unfortunate i don't use them often. it's the pxc 450 and computer=mp3.. pff, all about convenience.
but still, can't wait for my "upgraded" he60/hev70 combo

    tja,
    then don't do it.
if you don't like the grado sound, dont do it.

perhaps that's the beauty of audio. each has it's one preferences. but, sometimes you have audio which sounds really good. and everybody likes its sound. unfortunate, that kind of audio costs $$$$$$.
