    Hey!
I bought a WM-D3 with a broken centergear and replaced it with Marions. After replacement all gear runs smoothly but it doesn´t engage the tape. The plastic arm that is supposed to pull thef head and pinch roller don´t react when play button is pushed. i wonder if this is a mechanical or electrical issue? Has anybody experience of similar issue?

It’s possible the solder has come off the back of the playback head, so there’s no power. Also there is a yellow fork which should engage when you press play, which might be the problem. When you take the back off the D3 it can slip out of its position. It should be springy, not loose when you move it

I checked the fork and it is springy and the solderings on the head seems fine. The picture I had is from a DD2 just for to illustrate the the part i meant. the fork on my D3 is black.

I would check with a multimeter and find where the voltage stops. Start at the batteries, and work your way along until you find something. Or bite the bullet and send it away to one of the repair places, Dr Walkman, Marian Mihok or MagneticBlood on tapeheads. This can be a wait but it will come back perfect

I think there is a crack in a small gear. There is a very common problem with D3 which is a crack in that specific gear and @mihokm has a solution for it. I would check that gear before thinking of any electrical issues

Yes the gear was cracked but i glued to the pinch and it works great. The problem is tahat the fork does not react when playis pushed. Therfore it don´t lock the head and the tape swirls around one pinch.

    Hey again!
I think it is a mechanical issue. When play button is pressed the lever do not touch the switch, only when for and rew are depressed. Wonder if it depends on a missing part. To find I probably must disasemble all the moving metal parts. Has anybody experience of kinda issue?

Hi, I’m having the same issue with my center gear repair. I used Marian’s repair kit and also changed the smaller gear. After the repair the rw and ff gears were not engaging. I think it has something to do with the center gear arm and how bent up or down it is. This required removing all the components on top of that arm. I can’t seem to get it right, so I’m looking for someone to repair it for me. Let me know if you managed to fix yours ;)

Yes I have fixed it but I don´t know what the problem was. I decided to reassemble it one more time and abracadabra it wakes up. Probably i missed som moment the first time. I still have to open it again to adjust the gears and to put a new counter belt in place. By the way do You know where I can bye a new belt.

You can also buy pretty good of quality made in Ukraine belts or some Japanese belts from the site https://beltsturntable.com/ The Japanese belts which they sell are amazing, it seems like they found the same manufacturer as Fred from Marrs.
