I’m really glad that this community exists! I’ve been in love with tape, cassette decks and Walkman’s since I was a kid. Currently I’m looking for someone to repair a wm-d3 that I was trying to do a center gear repair on, but having difficulties beyond my expertise. My car even has its original Becker tape deck All the very best, Jordan
I am sure that car stereo is far easier to operate than the touchscreens in modern cars. Another plus is that it could be swapped out for a different DIN size unit if something went wrong, which is what I did in my 1988 Nissan when the clutches went in the original Alpine stereo. I like the styling of the car as well. I don't like the styling of some of the modern Mercedes with the curved upwards window line leaving very small side windows.
Nice car, I love those coups and my first car as a younster was a Benz, much older with the original Becker, no cassette but a very nice looking radio. I still have the car, it's been following me for over 30 years.
Thank you! Sometimes the best curves are square I like old Mercedes because of their giant windows. Nowadays you get a teeny window with a “luxury” backup camera instead. I love the tape deck in my car, as the sound quality is very good and no distractions from gps or phones. Plus I can play the tapes I make on my Nak 3cr.
I agree. How many curves on a Lamborghini Countach or Lotus Esprit? When it comes to Boomboxes there are very few lovers of the 1990s "Eggs" despite some of them sounding good. As a schoolkid I was always drawing futuristic cars using ruler. The most impressive car any member of staff had was the school secretary who had a Lotus Eclat. I will make an exception regarding curves for the Citroen DS23 which my best friends Mum had.
Some of the art deco cars of the 30's-60's were pretty cool even with a ton of curves, but when the 90's hit and everything had to be rounded, it was a disaster. I don't remember anybody in my design classes that liked the design direction of seemingly everything. I recall the 90's Ford Taurus bragging that there were no square angles on the car, just like a turd....
Move the Window line up 8" (20cm) and it would look modern (in a bad way) https://www.google.com/search?q=mer...&client=safari&prmd=inmv#imgrc=zvTNySXLsAqX_M
I’d make the same exception for the Citroen DS23. I do like old curvy Italian cars like the Alfa Romeo tipo 33 stradale
