Hi all, Thought I'd sign up so I can see pics ect that are posted. I'll also have questions from time to time no doubt. I'm a thrift/charity store prowler, I haven't spent more than $20nzd on any of my portable gear. I'm sure I would if the right piece cropped up. My stable Garage Kitchen Lounge Yesterday's new acquisition (no info online, possibly a rebrand?) Walkman Panasonic walk 3rd Walkman (motor working but belts degraded ) Main stereo is Luxman amps & tannoy (mostly) for Lps. That's me, hope to speak to a few of you in the future. Dave
Welcome! That Sanyo in your 3rd pic is one of the highest quality boomboxes ever made. Every switch moves with precision.
It was my first boombox, really amazing amazing sound stage. I saw the bloke putting it on the shelf and took it straight off. It looked to be worth every cent of the $20 I paid for it. The belts are worn out, motor sound is there but the spindles don't turn over. I'm running a a Lux K110w cassette deck through the inputs.
Knew it would be a rebrand, thanks for the info. I'm prob going to sell it to buy the belts for the WM DX100
Welcome to the forum! Nice collectiin so far! The National Panasonic'are great as well, they have an Ambient Sound feature that really throws the sound around and are powerful and heavy for their small size. I have a similar one.
That is my type of collecting and yet you are accumulating a nice collection. To me a lot of the fun of collecting is buying items that cost a small fortune when new for far less. I have amassed quite a collection of old catalogue scans to look at how much things cost back when new. I joined the forum a few years ago to point out that in 1979 my bottom of the range Sony boombox (CFS45L) cost 1/6th of the price of my new Honda motorbike. I still have the Sony but doubt if the Honda survived 40 years.
Those are great finds, I miss hitting the trail and finding cool stuff although I do get out once in a while still.
Thanks for the welcome guys and the feedback about my gear. It's great walking into a thrift store & seeing a new pile of Lps staring you in the face, the chrome of an Amp or boombox. Got a Pioneer SX-550 and a National rx-c37 boombox yesterday for next to nothing.
Our thrifting season starts pretty soon, the snow has almost all melted. The SX-550 is a great reciever, I got one that was missing buttons and some of the switches were roached. I found some similar microswitches and swapped out some internal parts and got the unit working again. Those units are perfect for the garage, they seem to be bullet-proof and they sound pretty good.
@Mister X That's exactly where it living now, garage system with a TD160mkii and either Kenwood Ls300g (bookshelf) or Pioneer S-424x speakers. Surprisingly excellent sound sound, complete & super clean, with orig manuals to boot. Yahoo, love the spring purge. Its been a good season for me, hopefully my vibes will head north with summer.
Post your adventures, the only thing I ever get to see from New Zealand is Hobbit and King-Kong Movies and my friends stories of what a great place it is. One of these days I'll make it down there and see for myself.
