Maybe... but this one is the higher-end model. Mine had the orange LED(?) display, located right between the search/skip and play/pause buttons.
Unless you want one for display, please AVOID this model! Service Manual is unobtanium, Royal Pain to disassemble spaghetti of internal wiring (this must be Aiwa of Discmans!) and according to kaosuncd.com they do not sound any good (I never managed to fix mine, so cannot comment!)
Suddenly, I'm glad I got the "low-end" model... worst of it was line-level output wasn't fixed (affected by volume attenuation) and the volume control got scratchy easily.
Wait... are you talking about the CBM-1000 or the CBM-777? Because mine still works, and apparently was good enough to pipe into my second-hand Craig compact stereo to dub some discs to an 8-track to play at work.
I was talking about CBM-1000 posted here by @Mister X. Below is a snapshot of my conversation with Master Gu (Kaosun) about this PCDP (PortableCDPlayer): CBM1000 RF amp: CXA1081 Servo amp: CXA1082 DSP: CXA1125/1135 CPU: HD????? (forgotten) DAC: NEC UPD6376 AUDIO amps: NJM4558 Optical head: SONY KSS220 Its design of membrane control panel nice but not durable. Its switching step-down power supply often get problems. This problem will cause over heating and melt the membrane comes from the control panel which is connected to the main board. Melting will cause no display, lacking segments, and key-pressing no responses. D6376? No. NJM4558? No. I think Citizen is a good maker of watches, not for PCDPs. Instead of an infamous Sony Discmans "middle gear" CBM1000 has a belt-drive for the sled: the first thing to be changed (belt available from TurntableNeedles.com): In mine I narrowed down the problem to the busted DC-DC converter, but never bothered to fix it. S2G sidetracked me onto cassettes and boomboxes CBM777 was a Beauty Star of my collection: simple and unbreakable design, decent sound quality
Agreed... the CBM-777 is durable (Mine still working before storage in a zipper bag)... but the lack of battery case was off-putting. Did either of yours include it, and was it interchangeable between them?
Mine had a snap-on battery case: Takes six AA batteries plus extra hiding space CBM1000 had very fancy battery pack, as in the ad by @Mister X above. It snaps to the bottom of the player but batteries go into side gondolas. They did look like rocket boosters and were the main reason why I bought that player. Unfortunately, at that time I was unaware of the concept of "display items" and once my restoration effort failed/expired I never put that thing together and never took any photos.
So that's what it looks like...?I never had one because it was an "order separately" item. Imagine my surprise at seeing I had to spend MORE money just to make my portable CD-player "portable"! And looking at it, I now see why the "feet" on my player were just little rubber discs.
Just stopping in here to share something related I just stumbled across searching for a CBM 2200... and learning of a CBM 3000: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/153105338106
