Just a quick one this week!! I picked this up nice & cheap last week - It kind of appealed to me with it's nice silver front & chrome speaker rings! When it arrived I was expecting a medium size stereo so I was very surprised to see that it is much bigger than I was expecting! 6 Inch woofers & a large casing make this baby large for sure! Very dirty & unloved with the left speaker grille pushed right in... Access is so easy, unscrew the casing & the front just lifts away with the speakers giving very good access to the whole shooting party!! Spying the cassette deck, I was sitting on the hedge as to whether it would be any good - A cheap deck with just one square belt to replace set my gun somewhat low.............. Rebelted & all switches cleaned up with Serviceoil, heads cleaned & polished back to gleaming condition - Time to test the deck....... Motor speed around 30% too fast & azimuth way out I pondered how could anyone actually use this machine! Definitely comical when you hear it work so well after adjusting both motor & head - We now had crispy treble & a very nice bass using headphones & sounding even better once the deck was screwed back in - Holding the mechanism dead still at the correct upright position is no picnic party! The rest of my afternoon I spent just cleaning over & over both the inside space & the front panel - This took an age to get presentable again with just minimal marks & a scratch on the cassette door which I will try & polish out at a later date............... All speaker & other mounting screws pinch up tight after 30 odd years avoids any annoying rattles inside the casing! 'All Gleaming Trumpets & Success Noise' - This is a great stereo & one I never heard of before....... The M-9880LU now looks & sounds great & I am delighted with it! Dolby is present here too which works very well & the cassette deck is rock solid without a wow or quaver to be heard! A handsome stereo I think & well designed making it a doodle to work on! Result for certain & a welcome addition to my collection! Yet another small miracle from St.Nick, not that you need your sainthood confirmed! Q from The Woods: how do you polish the heads? Not that I need to know: the love of my life who needed this (Sencor S-4800) is gone, but short of relapping I did not know how to clean the grudge on its head!?!?
Found this article, polishing with diamond pastes, in Russian but may be of help with translate. http://analog.pro/forum/viewtopic.php?t=497
Priceless... and funny!! Good thing I haven't forgotten my "birth/native language" yet thank you, my friend!
Er, this is me who's forgotten where you are from, дружище! Of course! I've seen it in introductions.
Jorge I just clean over & over with a felt head cleaner on a stick soaked in alcohol - Mine are all expired now after this machine so I don't have an image to post After that I use good old cotton buds with surgical spirit to do a final shine up....... Takes a while but you can see the heads on it in the link!! Sound after tweaking the loose azimuth screw is crisp & clear now, locking paint dabbed on said screw to lock it in place
exellent score lad, what a bargain, my rx 60 arrived lad and she is fully working which is rare for that model.... congrats my friend keep on rocking bro
