While browsing for Sharp VZs I just spotted this auction

I should emphasise that I have no connection with the seller and won't be bidding as I am already paying £100 a month to rent a storage unit for some of my late Father's train collection, which I have been selling item by item for the last eleven years.

It will be interesting to see what this lot goes for. The Sharp VZs could be worth the start price although some of the other boxes might be in the £10 each category.

Sweet, I think I'll be doing that someday, hopefully years from now...

Somehow I doubt it. However, whoever inherits your collection might do it. :ohmy

Where I live on the South coast has one of the highest proportions of pensioners in the UK. In the next small town there are about six charity shops and three house clearance places. In one of the House Clearance places they had letters of thanks from clients in the window, along the lines of "Thank you for the wonderful job you did. Enclosed is my cheque for £blanked out. Yes the person pays the house clearance people to empty all the "rubbish" from the house so it can go on the market, so someone else retiring from London can snap it up for £500000

I have to say that my views on collecting have been somewhat changed by having to sort through and work out what to do with my late Father's huge Model Train / Car / Soldier collection.

    <cynical mode off>.

Sometimes I get depressed when I see a huge lot like this, all great stuff, you could probably get all for a fraction of buying one at a time but there's something missing for me, I tend to like the hunting part just as much and I also don't get overwhelmed when it's just a small unit I find.

100% agreed. Finding one box for £15 at a car boot, or searching three years on ebay for a particular 1970s cassette recorder is much more fun.

I reckon someone could make a nice profit from buying this lot and selling the boxes individually.
If I was retired I would be more tempted. I thought I had seen a GF777 in the lot, then couldn't find it, but there is something looking like one right at the back of the first photo with the guy in it.

    Totally

I wonder what the error was? Maybe he thought there would be a flood of bidding?

With a collect only item like this it usually means the buyer and seller have come to an "arrangement" to pay cash and avoid paying the £50 cut Ebay and Paypal would otherwise take.

Having found that auction looking for Sharp VZs I was surprised to see one go for just £53 + a sensible amount for postage recently. It did sound as if it would need quite a bit of work though.
