The Globetrotters were huge here in the early 80's, Wide World of Sports on ABC would show their "games" every once in a while and us kids always wondered how they'd do against an NBA Team, were they popular overseas?
As @Mystic Traveller may confirm, us kids on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain, we had our own Heroes... mostly hockey and football/soccer dudes! Being 6-4 myself I still remember that I turned down more than one offer to play ball because in my mind it was something lame and not “manly enough” for a Sharp Guy like that younger me ...Stupidity...!!! Now going to treat myself with Schubert's quintet in C-major: thanks for the tip!!!!
i almost forgot, i also have a boxed one of these....wish i could show the brochures but i don't have room for a printer or a scanner
Great ad capStan, thanks for posting, I do not remember this unit at all back then but lately I'm finding a ton of information on it. It must have been a big seller for JVC and the bigger questions is whom were better, the Harlem Globetrotters or Earth Wind and Fire (Panasonic)? Both huge at the time but two different markets age-wise.
My home team was the Detroit Red Wings, they loved drafting and trading for Russians! I heard they used to broadcast some of the games over there in the 90's did you ever see them on TV?
Ha! Same here: Jean-Claude Van Damme came along with his Bloodsport movies then... And getting older, of course, when getting yet another scar during yet another stupid fight did not add to self-esteem no more...
