    In the early morning today I've took my Revox B215 to @Sergi 's expert hands to put new rollers and do a complete internal check out and readjustment.
    He is especialized in R2R but he's also an expert in decks and Technics SL1200 turntables. He was an AKAI official service for many years and learnt the secrets of tech expertise at AKAI facilities in Japan in the 80s.
    I have already talked about him here in another posts and in my website but I think it's worth for you to see what he has there. He has reorganized his entrance so it now became a sort of mini boombox/ R2R/ deck/ discman and walkman museum.
    I'll upload photos right from my phone now to show you.

    Beautiful shop !

    It looks stunning and some real gems there. those r2r machines look so good. I have been to Spain a lot of times, next time i go i am making this one of the places i head to.

    Thank you T-ster for your comments. Yes I accept walkmans to repair. When I receive a repair, I always make a pre-repair estimate, which, if not accepted, has no cost.

    Such a pity that AKAI couldn't manage to survive in the new digital era.

    Thank you for your comments. You're right. I think Akai could have been a great brand in the digital age. But, certainly we have their cassette decks and their open reel recorders with their GX and SuperGX heads that are still as new.

    Thank you, Sergi - very interesting pictures!
    My GX deck is simple, a GX-32 model, but I liked to record/play it back in the day,
    still in a very good condition but I haven't turned it on maybe for 5 years already.
    I think it may need a routine maintenance. :)

    It would be great to visit your museum, maybe one day when I happen to
    visit Barcelona next time.. :)

    Yup, I bought this GX-32 from my pal something 25 years ago mostly because of the GX technology - an "everlasting" head! :)
    BTW, may I share some of your pictures with my hobby mates? They would be very interested as AKAI is very popular and highly esteemed company here. :)

    YES, among 80's stereos community AKAI is very popular and still highly respected in Russia, R2R and decks, other components,
    JDM A&D (AKAI + DIATONE by Mitsubishi) components and acoustics.

    Ah, yes, Sergi - as a Pro what would you suggest buying these days - GX-9 or GX-75/75 MK2?
    Well, they are still rather expensive here as long as they are in a decent cosmetic and working condition.
    They ask 400-500$, give or take, for good ones, at least that what they say in adverts.

    Sometimes I have the urge to score either GX-9 or 75.. :)
    Which one is better in terms of reliability, maintanance perspective ("friendly or not") and sound quality?
    Or both models are more or less on the same level and I can choose from the design point. :)

    Both models are technically very good. Both have SuperGX heads, automatic calibration, etc. As for sound, the two models have an exceptional quality. The designs are very different so personally I think the choice is more by design than by features or quality. Perhaps the GX-75 / MKII is more robust mechanically and is more accessible for repair but both have the same reliability.
