I recently took time to finish my wm-2 i got from ebay. The center gear is unbroken and looks new, changed the belt and greased, oiled, contact spray put it together and pressed play,it runs but the head does not engage the tape. Anybody know what can be wrong? Thanks
See if this part (green arrow) is functioning properly , it's a bit tricky to configure. If you don't have the service manual , here.
Ok, i took the cassette lid off to take a look at the part no:369 LEVER ASSY, FWD in the manual, and its not moving. i´ll have to continue tomorrow ,and open the walkman
Had a look inside but could not see the lever assy working,I'll need more time and take out the gear and flywheel,to have a look under there. Thank you Machaneus for the pic,it will help later on. ...to be continued.
If you correctly install the lever assembly by opening and closing the "compartment that hold the head and pinch roller" it will work properly. As long as this process doesn't resolve the issue you gotta work on lever assembly position. By the way, It is unlikely( impossible ) to see a broken central gear on WM-2 OR WM-5 .
Hi,thank you Boodokhan. I'm still clueless why the head will not engage. I took the player apart and took pictures
I can't open my WM-2 right now to take some pics but from memory a point that is easy to overlook is that the lever assy at its bottom side (looks like a double hook) clips to the chassis (see picture below , blue frame ) , hope this might help.
If you look at above @Machaneus picture of lever assy , Those hooks pulls the head and capstan down to engage it when you push play button I can open a WM-2 to show you how it works. By the way, You flipped the main board in the most difficult way. Its easier to just un-solder wires to head compartment.
