I can't tell if it's just ugly or cutting edge, it looks like nickeccles might have a sister model, this is the Auritone Model 28D8 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Retro-Auritone-Boombox-Radio-Cassette-Recorder-Portable-Stereo-FM-MW-LW/202786617634?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=1&asc=60037&meid=1bd51295ef7a48c8b80269642b69df97&pid=100005&rk=6&rkt=12&sd=392359261581&itm=202786617634&pmt=1&noa=0&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 nickeccles thread http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?content_oid=489946812023204242&board_oid=193392314111653340
Just ugly. The station markings, specifically Radio 4 on LW mean it is a UK market box made after 1978. The two volume controls on opposite sides of the box are an ergonomic disaster. It looks like the sort of thing you would buy at a market if you couldn't afford a second teir box like.a Binatone
LOL two volume sliders, each with their own indicator. A feature that isn't needed, to mask the lack of features. Still cool and creative, though.
BBC Radio 1 to BBC Radio 4, the four national stations in the UK, hence my comment that it was made specifically for the UK market. Those stations are all available on FM now but Radio 4 continues to be broadcast on LW (Longwave). The MW frequencies are used for new stations like Talk/Sport channel Radio 5. Prior to 1978 the LW transmitter was used for Radio 2. On a school trip to France we could pick it up on the coach radio all the way to Paris.
I would buy this if the tuner glass was present! It's been on eBay for months now along with a mono mains powered only clock/radio/cassette from another seller! These are worth very little nowadays & certainly nothing like the tiny travel one in my old thread I think in the sunday magazine adverts, the 'Dual' left & right volume sliders were actually a 'Special Feature' Worth only nostalgic value to me & without the tuner glass I passed on it!! I bought another tiny silver radio/cassette back in the Summer minus the clock, it's a real gem & sounds too good for it's size!! It's a 'Fair Mate' lol & I'll post images when I rebelt it!!
Another odd-ball, I was just looking around and all of these strange listings are showing up. The Top Star 55, it looked cool in the thumbnail photo but.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/MW-UKW-Ste...a=1&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219
Today is my Sixtyeth year and I have quite a few not found in the wiki-boombox site but I have never gotten around to joining over there, to add any of the ones I have noticed missing from there.
Happy Birthday! You should add them here or even start a thread on this forum and show these treasures, Reli will throw them up over there. That site is becoming a great resource for boomboxes, too bad they don't have personal portables yet. These are kind of crappy boxes, I have a feeling yours are pretty cool.
